Looking for Gold - and now the journey's doneAfter two years work, and the writing and recording of 15 songs, the American Wilderness Project comes to a close with the release of the final four tracks on an EP titled 'Looking for Gold'. If the previous release, Out of the Darkness, looked into the shadows, Looking for Gold - is more optimistic, albeit with a touch of realism.

Part of American Wilderness Odyssey |
![]() Western Requiem is the final track to be written and recorded for the American Wilderness Odyssey Project. It was composed and recorded months after the other tracks. It was written on a new 12-string guitar made by Rob Hodgson, a brilliant luthier who lives in Idridgehay in the Derbyshire Hills of England. Steve had gone up to pick a repair to one of his guitars and Rob handed the 12-string to him to try out. The riff and chord progression just came out of nowhere when he picked it up. Remembers Steve: “It was almost like the guitar had this song inside it and had been waiting for me to arrive. Even though I was more or less broke at the time, Rob didn’t have a hard sales job. I took the guitar home that day and sat down and wrote Western Requiem. It seemed to reflect how we all felt about this project and the journey we had taken."
Video shot and edited by Kat Hodgkinson and Gemma Caldwell. Western Requiem recorded at Woodworm Studios, Oxfordshire. Engineered by Stuart Jones. |
