Singer-songwriter, folk musician, lover of Americana and inveterate teller of tales, Steve has appeared at clubs and festivals throughout the UK and also in America for many years. He has released several solo albums and is a proud member of the legendary The Long Road band. He is also a writer of musicals and theatre pieces. He is often to be found appearing with his long-time compadre “The Bishop” Chris Lydon - piano player, arranger and producer extraordinaire!

Steve writes the most amazing stories and what is astonishing is how he turns them into songs. His observational writing is probably the best there is.
— Simon Birds, Country Music UK.
Steve earns the title of ‘Songsmith’. He has a feel for melody and mood and a knack of matching or contrasting words with the music... a mixture of ideas and styles that any aspiring songwriter should hear.

Standing Stones

Steve's first solo album for 10 years.

Standing Stones is a collection of personal songs originally 'just-written-for himself'. These are listening songs written to be played as someone might tell a story - late at night by a flickering fire as the cold wind rattles the shutters. Or lying by a lake in August.

There are songs about his mother's evacuation to the Northumberland moors, the passing of an old friend, his love for the overlooked spirit of England, ghosts, a vagabond journey through the Maghreb, the troubled memories of old general, and a dream of the sea.

The first single is 'Blues On A Summer's Day'.

Steve Bonham is certainly a character and his songs that are inspired by reimagining what might come out of America’s musical roots today are chock full of quality.

You could have heard a pin drop as Steve spoke, we were all remembering our lived and unlived adventures. It was inspiring.
— Quote SourcCilian Fennel, Creator & Producer of RTÉ’s award-winning Centenary show.e

Wide brimmed hat. Long dark coat. Guitar slung on back. 30 years on the road. A 250,000 miles and half a thousand hotel rooms. From the Berlin Wall to Atlas Mountains, from Sahara Desert to the streets of Hong Kong: a memory brewed in the long simmering soup of people and place. A man who has learned to watch and to listen, to walk and talk in the ebb and flow of meeting and parting. He is a chronicler of the human spirit in words and music.

Described as a 'natural communicator' and a 'great storyteller' Steve blends story and song into a wry, funny and sometimes moving performance based upon his writing. His appearances include: Wigtown Book Festival, Ripon Theatre Festival, Isle of Wight Festival and the  Little Museum of Dublin.
